Hello there! I’m Michael Corr, a technical artist at Storigami, and welcome to my very first dev log entry.
My role is to lay the groundwork that will allow us to scale this application across platforms while keeping performance smooth and visuals engaging. Right now, I’ve set up the basics for the application to run on Android. But this is just the start.
Every decision I’m making is about optimization and scalability so that when we expand to other platforms, Unreal Engine 5 will give us the flexibility to grow without sacrificing performance. One of the first spaces I’ve been working on is a bedroom block out. Even at this early stage, it already includes a dynamic day and night cycle, along with weather variations like rain, snow, and sunny skies. These systems will make the world feel alive and responsive while also giving us a strong technical baseline to build on.

Equally important is optimization. You can see a few screenshots of how we’re staying in the right performance zones for Light Complexity, Shader Complexity, and Quad Overdraw.

These are the invisible metrics that ensure the experience runs smoothly now and will continue to do so as the application becomes far more complex. The goal is to maintain these optimizations as we add detail, interactivity, and storytelling layers. We’re also taking advantage of Character Creator 5 and iClone 8 to bring our designs to fruition in a timely but high-quality manner. The current hair styles are just place holders. We’re creating unique hairstyles in Blender and then importing them into Unreal Engine 5’s groom system, which gives a lot of control and quality in the final look. You can see a few screenshots of the progress in this log, including some of these early character forms.

This is just the beginning, but it’s exciting to see the technical foundations taking shape. By keeping performance, scalability, and quality in mind, we’re making sure that as the world of Storigami grows, it remains both beautiful and efficient. Stay tuned. I’ll be sharing more updates, along with visual progress, in upcoming entries.
